Established in 1798, Buckland was an early inland stagecoach town, situated along the Fauquier and Alexandria Turnpike (today’s Route 29). Buckland is home to the Buckland Historic District, a National historic district encompassing 30 contributing buildings, sites and structures. The district is centered on a grist mill (grinding into flour) and is located near Gainesville at the intersections of Routes 29 and 15.
Sites include the Cerro Gordo plantation and portions of the Civil War Buckland battlefields.
